ONE / ONE
Basic rules
[Evening, embers, the scent of roasted pork. After everything that’s happened, the fireflies are still here anyway. They look like tiny fairies sneaking into the party]
— What a night! A party it must be, and so a party it shall! Roast pork on the spit! Alice turns 15 today!
— That’s amazing, Dad! Feels like just yesterday I was turning 15 myself.
— I know. Imagine how strange it feels for me. In my mind, you’re like twins born twelve years apart by some bizarre twist of fate. I remember you both looking exactly the same at every age. It’s crazy. Sometimes I think I’m losing it. Anyway… you’re up first for tower duty. That way, you can enjoy the rest of the evening.
— You think they’ll come?
— No doubt about it. The smell will pull them in like flies. But some things have to be celebrated, no matter what it takes. Don’t you agree? Stay sharp, but keep as calm and focused as you can. And remember: first shot goes in the air—because that’s the way it should be. Then one/one—because after that, it’s not your problem anymore.
— Okay.
— That’s my girl. My brave, brave girl.

Regole base
— Gran serata! Festa deve essere, e festa sarà! Spiedo di porchetta! Alice compie 15 anni!
— Che bello papà! Mi sembra ieri che li ho fatti io.
— Già. Figurati quanto può sembrare strano a me. Vi ricordo identiche a ogni età.
— Ci puoi scommettere.
— Ok.
— Brava. Brava la mia ragazza.

Anyway, the more I read you, the more I think that one day you should dump all these stories on a carpet and create a Dune-like galaxy. Great piece as always!
